The Great Wall you may not know about By Hu Dongmei in Yinchuan and Ye Zizhen | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2021-03-02 17:18 Share CLOSE Shizuishan in Northwest China s Ningxia Hui autonomous region is home to many Great Wall segments that are not widely known.  Built during Emperor Jiajing s reign during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Great Wall section in Shizuishan s Dawukou district extends more than 43 kilometers. It has 18 smoke towers and 75 wall fragments.  Li Zhigang, a resident of Shizuishan, noted that the wall in this area played an important role as a military bulwark against the Tartars.  Li used drones to record a variety of views of the Great Wall section.

Businesses report robust February vacation weeks

CONWAY — Despite limited ski area ticket sales and restrictions on restaurant seating due to the pandemic, Mount Washington Valley businesses still described the two February vacation weeks (President s Day vacation week, followed by New Hampshire vacation week) as busy with increased traffic, sales and bookings. The fact that regular snow falls kept local areas with great conditions for skiers and riders certainly didn t hurt. Last year at this time, nervousness about the brand-new coronavirus was just beginning to flare. Yet the February vacation weeks were still strong. Fast forward to 2021. Lodging members of the chamber weighed into the survey with mostly positive comments. In fact, Christopher Bellis, co-owner of the Cranmore Inn in North Conway, was featured in a story on WMUR-Channel 9 about what a strong vacation week the valley had.

Vernon Jordan made being a Black man in America look effortless

Vernon Jordan made being a Black man in America look effortless Robin Givhan, The Washington Post March 2, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Vernon Jordan came from humble beginnings and grew up in a segregated America, yet he moved through the world in the manner of someone who owned it. He was a Black man who knew what it meant to be called the n-word, not in a burst of anger but with cruel nonchalance. He knew what it meant to be underestimated. In response to these indignities, he used his physical presence - his formidable height, his confident bearing, his politicized skin tone and his pitch-perfect style - to rise above those who would insult his humanity.
